George Gerald Reisman is an American economist, author, and Objectivist philosopher. He is Professor Emeritus of Economics at Pepperdine University and the author of several books, including The Government Against the Economy and Capitalism: A Treatise on Economics. Reisman is a staunch defender of free markets and classical liberalism. He believes that government intervention in the economy is always harmful and that the only way to achieve a prosperous and just society is through laissez-faire capitalism.
Reisman was born in New York City in 1937. He studied economics at Columbia University and the New School for Social Research, where he was a student of Ludwig von Mises. Reisman received his Ph.D. in economics from New York University in 1964.
Reisman is a prolific writer and has published numerous articles and books on economics and philosophy. His most famous book is The Government Against the Economy, which was praised by both F. A. Hayek and Henry Hazlitt. In this book, Reisman argues that government intervention in the economy is the root cause of economic problems and that the only way to achieve a prosperous and just society is through laissez-faire capitalism.
